True non-targeted molecular histology: The example shown is from a human breast cancer biopsy. Several ductal carcinoma in situ (CIS) are present in the tissue (A). The molecular information generated by MALDI imaging allows the detection of two CIS states (B). Two molecular signals (shown in red and in green) are limited to a sub-group of CIS each. Thanks to the integration of the MIRAX virtual microscopy results, a direct evaluation of this finding on the morphological level is possible.
