Coherex Medical's Coherex FlatStent(TM) EF PFO Closure System receives CE Mark clearance for use in Europe to close Patent Foramen Ovales (PFOs). A PFO is a common heart defect found in approximately 20 percent of all humans - a tunnel-like opening between the upper chambers of the heart that can allow blood to bypass the lungs and shunt directly from the right atria to the left. Made from Nitinol metal and polyurethane, the FlatStent is the first device cleared for use almost entirely within the PFO tunnel.
