Survey shows little or no reprieve for land-use developers in 2006, compared to 2005
According to the second annual Saint Index(c) - research brought forth by The Saint Consulting Group to measure attitudes toward land-use development - three-quarters of Americans do not want any new development in their own communities. Some development sectors in the 2006 survey encountered less opposition this year, although opposition still continues: apartments/condominiums, casinos, grocery stores, office buildings, large shopping centers, and single-family housing. However, opposition has grown towards biotech research facilities, landfills, power plants, and quarries. Cold comfort: more opposition for Wal-Mart, but less intensely. (Graphic: Business Wire)
