Back to the Future -- New Zealand's Spinyback Label Brings True ''Wines of Extinction'' to the States

Spinyback Wines, produced by Waimea Estates of Nelson, New Zealand, will make their debut in the U.S. in mid-June. The wines sport a friendly green caricature of their namesake on their labels -- an endangered reptile called the Tuatara, the lone survivor of a large group of ancient reptiles that roamed the earth in the Dinosaur Age. The reptiles are found only in New Zealand. Via Pacifica Imports of Sebastopol, CA, will import the wines -- a Sauvignon Blanc ($9.99) and a Pinot Noir ($14.99). (Graphic: Business Wire)
